HTC handsets have a reputation for innovation and quality. After being announced in February 2010, the HTC Desire promises an impressive spec list as one would expect from the manufacturer. Due for release in April 2010, fans of the brand are sure to be impressed.

The Desire handset measures 119x60x11.9mm and weighs in at 135 grams. Whilst it may not be the lightest handset out there, it certainly leaves no doubt about the build quality of the handset, and will indeed appeal to many users. A large 3.7 inch AMOLED capacitive touch screen is capable of displaying up to 16 million colours at 480x800 pixels. A useful speakerphone is built in allowing hands free communication. A 3.5mm audio jack can accommodate hands free kits as well as headphones for listening to music.

Internal memory is 576MB RAM and 512MB ROM as standard. However, because of the microSD slot a memory card of up to 32GB can be installed providing a generous amount of storage for media files and other data.

An array of connectivity options is included ensuring continued connection to networks on the move. Initial means of connection is via class 10 versions of both GPRS and EDGE. Where 3G coverage is available, HSDPA is possible at speeds of up to 7.2Mbps, and HSUPA at up to 2Mbps. If there is a wireless internet router in the same vicinity as the phone, then Wi-Fi connectivity can be utilized for even faster access to the internet. Additionally, Bluetooth version 2.1 is installed as standard offering an option to share files and data with compatible devices in the same locality. GPS is included with A-GPS support.

The HTC Desire is equipped with a camera boasting an impressive 5MP. This operates at a pixel resolution of 2592x1944 pixels. This includes autofocus and LED flash so quality photos can be taken in lower lighting conditions. It also has the ability to shoot video in D1 quality at a rate of 30 frames per second.

A versatile media player supports a range of both music and video file formats. These can easily be transferred to and from a computer by utilizing the micro USB (v2.0) port. Additional entertainment options include a range of pre-installed games and Stereo FM radio player. Fans of social networking will not be disappointed with the HTC Desire, with dedicated applications offering direct connection to FaceBook, Flickr and Twitter.

HTC have opted for the renowned Android Operating system. In this case it is version 2.1 (Eclair) which is the same version as found in the highly regarded HTC Google Nexus One. As well as the wide range of impressive software and applications, the hardware is also impressive. A very capable Qualcomm Snapdragon 1GHz Processor handles demanding applications with ease.
